Jerry Epp
Jerry Epp is a dedicated hyperrealist artist whose journey into painting began later in life, fueled by a passion for creating meaningful and highly detailed works of art. As a child and teenager, Jerry enjoyed drawing meticulous pencil portraits, but his artistic pursuits took a backseat as life led him to focus on family, marriage, and a career.
Five years ago, inspired by a trip to Canmore and undeterred by the high cost of art he encountered there, Jerry decided to try his hand at painting. With encouragement from his wife, who gifted him his first set of paints, Jerry began experimenting with acrylics. Although his initial attempts were modest, his determination to improve, paired with newfound time after retiring from WestJet, allowed him to fully dedicate himself to his craft.
Specializing in hyperrealism, Jerry works with acrylic on birch panels, painstakingly building up layers of watered-down paint to achieve extraordinary depth, luminosity, and detail. This meticulous technique often requires between 250 and 350 hours to complete a single piece. His work captures the essence of his subjects with photographic precision, ensuring even the smallest details—down to individual blades of grass—are faithfully rendered.
Jerry finds his greatest joy in creating paintings of special places and cherished memories for his clients. He approaches each commission with care, working closely with his clients to transform meaningful photographs into stunning, lifelike works of art that resonate deeply and preserve treasured moments for years to come.
